Hey guys! I am waiting on spray paint to dry so I can post my latest little DIY with y'all. Any guesses on what it is? If you guess right, you'll win my astonishment at how sharp your guessing skills are. Also, I'll be a little concerned that you're stalking me....Ahem, moving right along!
So in the mean time, I wanted to share with you an insurance-related money saving tip! Guys, insurance is not my thing, so maybe the whole world knew about this except me. But just in case any of you are in the dark on this, here I am with a flashlight.
Have you heard of glass coverage (AKA windshield insurance)?
If not, you could be setting yourself up for a hefty, unexpected expense. Let me set the scene for you...
You're driving down the highway and some 18 wheeler ahead of you kicks up a rock on the road. It smacks right into your windshield leaving a spiderweb-like crack (or worse, a giant streak right across the whole thing). You call your insurance company only to find out that a repair isn't covered (and generally runs $75 and up!) and if it needs replacing, you must pay your deductible (usually between $250-$500). Ouch.
In that scenario, you did not elect for glass coverage. Or--as was the case with us--no one ever even bothered to tell you what it was! We learned about it from a friend, called our insurance company, and sure enough--we didn't have it at the time!
What does it cost?
I asked how much it would add to our policy, and guys...our company said they could cover both of our vehicles for $12 extra. On a 6 month policy, that breaks down to literally $1 per vehicle per month! Uh, yes please!
We have already used it for 3 Safelite repairs (at the cost of $0), so the coverage has more than paid for itself. If a repair isn't possible, your windshield gets replaced at NO cost to you! And no worries, a claim will NOT increase your rate or deductible.
For us, the small addition to our payment was definitely worth the peace of mind since we do a bunch of traveling, which is where annoying rock situations tend to happen.
I hope this tip was helpful to y'all. If you're not sure if you have this type of coverage, just call and ask! Your provider should be able to give you an estimate pretty quickly if you don't have it. If you know way more than I do about insurance (of the vehicle, home, or life varieties), please share your secrets! I will be forever grateful! And if you actually call your provider and add this coverage, come tell me about it! That would kind of blow my mind to know someone on the internet listened to me on something.
Until next time,
