It’s here!! I have been waiting to show you guys our coastal dining room makeover, and today’s the day!
As a reminder, here’s the before:

A teeny round table given to us to start out with and not much else.
And here’s how we lived with it for a while once we got our new table. The decal wall clock was kinda neat for a while, but we definitely were ready for a change:
Here’s a progress picture of painting with some free child labor:
You can see the difference a fresh coat of bright white paint made on our dingy ceiling. The left edge and the area around the light fixtures is where we’ve painted. In the middle, you can see there are two tones of gray/ off-white we were living with. We used THIS tool to make our lives SO much easier. I’ll do a full review soon:
And here’s the finished product:
Here’s what we did:
• New table
• Painted the walls (Benjamin Moore Gray Owl and Benjamin Moore Hale Navy) and ceiling (Behr Ultra Pure White)
• New light fixtures (I made these! Tutorial coming soon!)
• Triptych, abstract, and other wall art (by me! Frames from Hobby Lobby and Michaels)
• Mirror (yard sale find $5)
• DIY plant shelves and snake plants
• Whale salt and pepper shakers (Pier 1)
Down the line when we put in hardwoods I’ll get a rug. I’m thinking broad stripes OR a natural fiber rug. Jute, sisal, or some type of sea grass.
Let’s work our way around the room
The right corner features this little round mirror I found at a yard sale. I spray painted it with Rustoleum Metallic Antique Brass. It looks a bit more champagne colored if you ask me, but it still looks much better than the dull yellow it was before. I love how, depending on where you’re sitting, it captures different parts of the paintings.
There’s very little natural light in here, so it bounces around what light we do have to brighten the room. We’re considering putting in some solar tubes.
So I decided I wanted a triptych (3 piece painting) of a jellyfish! This took me a bazillion late nights when I was able to sneak out of bed and get a few hours of work in. Me being my biggest critic, I still feel like I want to work on it some more, BUT I do love it and was happy enough with it to finally share 🙂
Here’s another view form the other side of the room. You can also see my plant shelves. They’re each accompanied by a shell half filled with sea glass.
Here’s the left wall. This is a smaller abstract piece I painted. Next to it, I have a map of the Gulf Coast I found on line and printed. Below it, I tried my hand at some word art (a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson). The driftwood-looking frames are from Michaels. Here’s a closer look:
I kept the table centerpiece simple because, honestly, we use it all the time and I don’t feel like constantly moving lots of stuff. I paired a vase full of shells we’ve found with a candle anchored in sand and sea glass. Next to them are a pair of adorable little whale salt and pepper shakers from Pier 1.
Last but not least, I transformed our builder grade pendants. Roland removed the center one and I spray painted the base and poles Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze. I’ll post a tutorial with how I made the pendant covers. It’s cheaper and easier than you might think!
Here’s a shot of them in action:
Here’s one last comparison:
We love it! Thank y’all for stopping by and checking out our progress 🙂 I’ll have tutorials up soon for the light fixtures. Until then, here’s a cute case of bedhead to hold you over. Happy Saturday!
